You will receive an individual treatment plan that aims to return you to the level of activity and lifestyle you are used to without having to deal with the pain. SYMPTOMS

Most pain in the feet and ankles will depend on the area and structures that have been irritated and affected the brain, causing nociception of the fire to a specific region. At Emerson Physical Therapy & Rehab Center, we believe that ankle and foot pain is caused and created due to lack of function. Most foot conditions include joints and the appropriate soft tissue.

CAUSES

There are many different causes of ankle and foot pain. One of the main factors may be structural predisposition and poor stability leading to defective biomechanics. All three factors help to determine motor control in the foot and ankle. There are many scenarios in which the pain of the foot and ankle is connected to the knee and hip due to the function of the lower kinetic chain. Other reasons include, among others:

  • Developmental dysfunctions
  • Developmental imbalance with muscles
  • Muscular strains
  • Ligamentous sprains
  • Poor motor engram functionality
  • Trauma
  • Poor posture

DIAGNOSIS

In Emerson Physical Therapy and Rehab Center, the doctor will start a comprehensive functional examination that will deal with the beginning, cause, duration, severity, vectors, establish sensible tasks, and functional tasks that cause pain. At this point, the cause of foot and ankle pain will be determined; however, in severe cases, X-ray or diagnostic MRI is required.

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSTICS:

  • Heel Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Runners Heel
  • Ankle Sprain
  • Ankle Instability
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Bulk and internal arch pain
  • Flat feet
  • Tunnel disorder

TREATMENT

At Emerson Physical Therapy and Rehab Center, we have extensive experience in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders. Based on our functional assessment, we create an individual treatment plan. Treatment options may vary depending on the type and severity of foot and ankle pain and structures and muscles and joints.

The treatment will be a combination of foot specific physical therapy and physical therapy exercises on lower foot stability and exercises involving the lower kinetic chain. We use our experience in manual medicine and rehabilitation to retrain the stability and proprioception of the feet and ankles. This approach is much more effective in the correction of orthosis and steroid injections, which only mask, but do not solve the cause of pain. Foot and ankle pain will be combated by changing gait, foot stability, and transferring weight with ground forces while walking and running. The rehabilitation program aims to make pain-free feet, increase the range of motion, increase stability and strengthen internal muscles to reduce the cause of foot and ankle pain
